TheDOJ,inits48-pagefiling,alsodeniedthatPresidentDonaldTrump’sSeptemberTruthSocialpostcallingonU.S.AttorneyGeneralPamBonditoprosecuteprominentpoliticaladversaries,includingComey,Sen.AdamSchiff,D-Calif.,andNewYorkAttorneyGeneralLetitiaJames,hadanyinfluenceonthedecisiontobringcharges.
“ThesepostsreflectthePresident’sviewthatthedefendanthascommittedcrimesthatshouldbemetwithprosecution.TheymayevensuggestthatthePresidentdisfavorsthedefendant.Buttheyarenotdirectevidenceofavindictivemotive,”prosecutorsargued.
